Netflix’s ‘The Queen’s Gambit‘ goes on garnering praise from stars.
Following Patti Smith‘s post regarding the limited series, which is based on the book of the same name by Walter Tevis, Hollywood actor Jamie Lee Curtis took to Instagram to share her reviews.
The ‘Knives Out‘ actor uploaded the official poster of the series, and spoke out as “a public sober person.” Curtis, who is a recovering alcoholic and painkiller addicted, wrote that ‘The Queen’s Gambit‘ reflects the destructive aspects of substance addiction, unlike the other shows which promote using substances as an act of advertisement. Then the actor added:
“As we all know, drugs and alcohol seem very glamorous in the movies and on TV and the myriad commercials that tell us how happy it makes people. Of course, that’s just advertising. This is reality. Well done. @the.queensgambitnetflix”
The limited series, created by Scott Frank and Allan Scott, focuses on the story of Beth Harmon (starring Anya Taylor-Joy), who wants to become the world’s best chess player while struggling with drug and alcohol dependency. The more Harmon wins the games, the more she becomes addicted to these substances and finally, she loses control of her life.
‘The Queen’s Gambit,’ starring Bill Camp, Moses Ingram, Chloe Pirrie, Christiane Seidel, Rebecca Root, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Marielle Heller, and Harry Melling alongside Taylor-Joy was released on October 23, 2020, by Netflix and became one of the most-watched series during its first week.
