Janet Jackson Reveals She Was Offered X-Men’s Storm Role Before Halle Berry But She Refused

The singer recently explained why she rejected the ‘X-Men’ role.

Janet Jackson and Drew Barrymore talked about roles they had to turn down on the latest episode of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show.’ Barrymore thought Jackson was offered a role in ‘The Matrix,’ but the singer clarified it was actually Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men.’ She shared:

“It was… this is horrible. I can’t remember the film, but Halle Berry played Storm. I couldn’t because I was just embarking on the Janet tour. But I think that’s what you’re confusing it with. It wasn’t ‘The Matrix.’ ”

Halle Berry played Storm in the 2001 movie as well as ‘X2,’ ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ Alexandra Shipp later took over the role for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘Dark Phoenix.’

Will Storm Join The MCU?

Marvel Studios started to bring Fox’s X-Men back into the MCU in recent years. But Berry and Shipp shared no interest in returning as Storm in future films. Shipp told ET in January 2024:

“The thing is, what I love about the career that I’ve been able to form is that I can play many different things, and at this point, I feel like I’ve done what I needed to do with Storm, and I think that there are other women who could take on that role and really kill it and support that. But for me, I just feel like I’m at a different place in my life.”

Some of the others are still set to return, though. Aaron Stanford, Hugh Jackman, and Ryan Reynolds will be back as Pyro, Wolverine, and Deadpool in ‘Deadpool 3’ on July 26.
