In honor of the 20th anniversary of ‘Requiem For A Dream,’ Jared Leto, who earned an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor with his role as a transgender woman in ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ shared a post on his verified Instagram account and told of how he received the role in Darren Aronofsky’s cult film.
Leto included a variety of pictures from the movie, based on the novel of the same name by Hubert Selby Jr., and expressed that he had put giant effort to play ‘Harry Goldfarb:’
“I remember how badly I wanted to be a part of this film and how badly I wanted to work with @darrenaronofsky. I remember that I put up a good fight to get the role. He made me earn it, for sure.”
The 48-year-old actor said that he did whatever he thought he could do in order to bring more authenticity, more honesty, more truth to the role. Then Leto mentioned the period he spent time with people in addiction for properly portraying ‘Goldfarb’ who is a heroin addiction as well as:
“So I spent time on the street with a group of people in the East Village, many of whom are no longer alive. They lost their battle to addiction, but I spent a lot of time with those people and they were very supportive and helpful and generous with their time and experiences. It was a really brutal but informative experience.”
The ‘Nobody’ actor called ‘Requiem For A Dream’ as the film that changed his life, and concluded his words as follows:
“Requiem is a story about addiction and all the hows and whys and everything in between. It’s a story about dreams too. We would talk about it as a horror film and the monster is addiction. I suppose it’s also about how addiction is the killer of dreams.”
