Jeff Goldblum reflected on his return as Dr. Ian Malcolm in 2022’s ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ in a recent interview with Total Film. As he described the gig as a ‘very enjoyable experience,’ the actor commented on his character’s fate in the upcoming sequel, ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth.’
“I think Ian Malcolm may have ridden off into the sunset. Maybe,” he said. “Because this next one — my friend Scarlett Johansson and my new friend Jonathan Bailey from ‘Wicked,’ I think, are taking up the reins. And I can’t wait to see what they do. I think that’s a good idea.”
‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ was the third movie starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the ‘Jurassic World’ series and the sixth overall in the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise. Though fans liked the film, scoring it 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, it critically failed with a lower rating of 29%.
Still, Goldblum said of the project, “I had such a good time on it. I enjoyed working on it and enjoyed trying to make it good. I think it sold a bunch of tickets. But, you know… [laughs] Everybody’s got an opinion about it. It’s tough to make a good movie.”
A follow-up film, ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth,’ began development earlier this year with a new cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. The movie is set to release on July 2, 2025.
