In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight’s Deidre Behar at the Critics Choice Awards, Jeffrey Wright revealed that, like the fans, he is trying to remain patient for the new Batman sequel.
As anticipation builds for the sequel to 2022’s ‘The Batman,’ actor Jeffrey Wright, who played James Gordon in the first film, expressed his enthusiasm for the sequel, saying:
“Clearly, I’m Lieutenant Gordon at the end of the film, the first film — so we may be moving up in the ranks, I suppose, but I haven’t seen anything yet. I’m being patient, letting [director] Matt Reeves do his thing — which is going to be magical and wonderful — and looking forward to diving back into it when the time comes.”
It appears that the actor has yet to lay eyes on the script for the new Batman movie.
What We Know About the Upcoming ‘The Batman – Part Two’
‘The Batman’ was envisioned as the chapter of a new trilogy, aiming to create a Batman-centric universe outside of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Since November 2019, key cast members, including Pattinson, have been on board for future films. Pattinson and Reeves expressed interest in deepening Batman’s narrative, which will potentially introduce characters like Robin and villains such as the Court of Owls, Calendar Man, Mr. Freeze, or Hush in upcoming sequels.
The sequel, which has been greenlit following the success of the Pattinson-led film, is expected to be released on October 3, 2025.
In addition to ‘The Batman – Part II,’ the Batman universe is expanding through various spin-offs. HBO Max is developing a series focused on the Penguin character, set to premiere in late 2024. Another project is a series centered on Arkham Asylum, which is currently in the early stages of development. It aims to explore the origins of various characters associated with the institution.
Meanwhile, Wright’s current focus is on ‘American Fiction,’ a project for which he received a Best Actor nomination at the Critics Choice Awards. Besides, his schedule remains busy with upcoming projects like ‘Ark: The Animated Series‘ and ‘Atrabilious.‘
