Jeffrey Wright Suggests Gotham’s Darkest Family Feud For The Batman Sequel

Wright thinks James Gordon Jr. would be a great addition to ‘The Batman: Part II.’

‘The Batman’s Commissioner James Gordon Jeffrey Wright has an unexpected idea for a villain in the upcoming sequel.

You may be guessing classic enemies like Scarecrow or even the mysterious Court of Owls might appear, but Wright has his sights set on someone far less obvious — James Gordon Jr., his character’s psychopathic son.

In a recent interview with The Movie Dweeb, Wright opened up about his thoughts on the sequel. When asked which villain he’d like to face, he admitted it was a tough choice because there are so many to pick from. Wright suggested after thinking it over, “You know, Gordon actually has a son who becomes somewhat nefarious. That could be a possibility.”

Wright even hinted that he has an actor in mind for the role. But he kept the name private and said he’d only reveal it once the cameras were off.

James Gordon Jr., or J.J. Gordon, has an unsettling history in DC Comics. He first appeared as an infant in the 1987 comic ‘Batman: Year One’ by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Baby J.J. is saved by Batman after mobsters try to throw him off a bridge in that story. This event plays a major part in the bond between Batman and James Gordon.

What sets James Jr. apart from other villains is his twisted belief system. He thinks empathy makes people weak and sees his lack of emotion as a strength. He’s not motivated by money or power but by a disturbing desire to spread his mindset. James Jr. created a drug to turn others into psychopaths like himself in one of his most terrifying plans. He even wanted to add the drug to baby formula in factories across Gotham.

‘The Batman: Part II’ is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
