Jeremy Renner Is Still Open To Offers For A ‘Mission: Impossible’ Comeback

Renner explains why he had to leave the franchise and if he’ll ever return.

Jeremy Renner appeared in two ’Mission: Impossible’ films as William Brandt and was even thought to potentially take over from Tom Cruise. But the actor left the franchise before the recent sequels, ’Fallout’ and ’Dead Reckoning.’ When Collider recently asked him about this decision, and he shared:

“Yeah. I had to leave that. I was supposed to do more with them. I love those guys. I love Tom so much. We had so much fun, and I love that character a lot. It requires a lot of time away. It’s all in London. I had to go be a dad. It just wasn’t gonna work out then… Maybe now that my daughter’s older that could happen. I’d always jump into a ‘Mission: Impossible’ anytime and back into Brandt. It’s great.”

A new ’Mission: Impossible’ installment is currently in the works, but Renner’s name isn’t in the cast list. The film is set for release on May 23, 2025.

A 2023 Accident Also Held Him Back From The Industry

A severe snowplow accident in 2023 forced Jeremy Renner to step down from other action roles, as well. The actor hasn’t played Marvel’s Hawkeye since the 2021 Disney+ show. He told ComicBook earlier this year that he was ready to return, though:

“I leave the storytelling and the narrative to the writers and all that. But I do love the character, and if they called and asked for me to do it, I’ll be prepared. [Kevin] Feige, I’m stretching right now, my guy!”

Recent leaks from Marvel’s ’Thunderbolts’ showed someone that looked like Renner on the set and led to rumors about Hawkeye’s cameo in the film. But whether it’s actually him in the image is unclear.

The Actor Is Back In The Scene After Serious Injuries

The Marvel actor returned to the screen in the third season of ’Mayor of Kingstown.’ He reprised his role as Mike McLusky alongside Michael Beach, Diane Wiest, and others in the Paramount+ series.

Beach discussed Renner’s comeback after his recovery during a chat with The Direct early May:

“Jeremy is a war horse, man. I mean that guy, you know, he broke 38 bones. He actually died, which I didn’t know until he told me, and he’s been coming back. And he says he wasn’t sure how it would be. But he was ready.”

The Captain Kareem Moore actor also noted that his co-star met all the physical demands of filming without an issue and was getting ’stronger and stronger’ during production.
