Actor Jessica Biel took a part in the ‘Girl Effect‘ challenge on the International Day of the Girl by sharing a never-seen photo of her alongside her story. Biel, who secretly welcomed her second child with husband Justin Timberlake, posted a throwback photo of herself wearing a jersey on the soccer field, and added a forceful message that reads:
“Society told me I was SUPPOSED TO be nice, be pretty, be sweet, be feminine. Instead, I CHOSE TO own my strength, cultivate my mind, and embrace my power. At a young age, so many girls are taught to be comfortable walking two steps behind their male peers. As someone who always identified in mind and body as an athlete –– that never made sense to me.” ⠀
Then the ‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry’ actor, stated that women were powerful even though it made people scared.
“While the gender stereotypes have evolved and we’ve come a long way — it’s still so important for little girls everywhere to recognize that they are capable of everything – and more. We have to teach all children equality so that one day, girls will be represented EVERYWHERE that decisions are made.”
Biel asked her fans to tag one friend who inspires them to tell their stories, and continued that by saying when one girl found her power to make different choices that change her life, it would inspire others to do the same.
“THAT changes the world. Learn more at @girleffect.”
Apart from being a celebrity who shares forceful posts concerning gender equality, Biel is an activist working for WomanCare Global, a nonprofit health care organization that provides girls with sexual education.
