Jim Carrey Gives Up On Retiring For ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 3’

Carrey has decided not to retire and will return as the villain Dr. Robotnik in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3.’

Jim Carrey decided not to retire and will return to play the villain Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming movie ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3.’

A short preview of ‘Sonic 3’ was recently screened at CinemaCon. According to ComicBook.com, Carrey appears as Dr. Robotnik in the clip. It seems he will be a bit different, though — he’s gained a bit of weight, and he makes jokes about eating too many carbs.

Carrey Was ‘Fairly Serious’ About Retiring

Carrey previously said he’ll be retiring after the second Sonic movie. He even said he felt he had done enough in his career:

“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ is set to premiere on December 20. Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Idris Elba, and Tika Sumpter will return to their roles. Krysten Ritter and Alya Browne also joined the cast.

There’s also a special Knuckles spin-off series coming to Paramount+ before the movie. You can watch the trailer for the show below.
