Joe Manganiello Believes He Has ‘Unfinished Business’ In ‘True Blood’

He hopes for a chance to explore more of his story.

Joe Manganiello recently joined Andy Cohen Live and said there was more to explore with Alcide Herveaux in HBO’s ‘True Blood.’

During the conversation, Manganiello looked back on his time on the show. He said that he started as a guest star for just one season. Reflecting on his departure from the show, the actor continued:

“I thought there was so much left on the table for me. … I wound up on the show for five years in total, but my character had to get out of the way so that Sookie could wind up settling the A and B plots with Bill and Eric. The only way to get me out of the way was to shoot me in the face. I really felt like there was a lot that was left unexplored. [I’m] always on the lookout for like a good werewolf script for me because… I feel like there’s a lot in me that was unfinished. I have unfinished business in the werewolf department.”

So, it seems the actor believes Alcide’s death was necessary for the progression of other storylines, like Sookie’s relationships with Bill and Eric. Besides, his statement about ‘unfinished hopes’ may signal that a future project might give a more satisfying conclusion to Alcide Herveaux’s story.

Will ‘True Blood’ Return to the TV?

A ‘True Blood’ reboot was scrapped in February 2023 due to budget cuts at Warner Bros. Discovery. However, the door appears to be open for the show’s return.

‘True Blood’ aired from 2008 to 2014 and ended its seven-season run with mixed reactions from fans. This was mainly due to its finale, which saw several characters meet their ends and concluded with Sookie ending up with a new, unnamed character.

As it appears, Manganiello also agrees his character had more story left to tell.
