John Bradley Says ‘3 Body Problem’ Role Was Tailor Made For Him

It turns out the role was specifically created for him by the show’s creators.

‘Game of Thrones’ actor John Bradley plays Jack Rooney in ‘3 Body Problem,’ and it seems this role was written with him in mind.

As per Variety, Bradley talked to the creators about the series, and they excitedly told him that Jack Rooney is almost just like him. This made Bradley a bit nervous, though:

“They said, ‘It’s as close to yourself as any character you’ll ever play.’ It’s kind of a daunting prospect. It’s a bit like you’re going to see yourself drawn by one of those caricature artists on the street. I’m going to find out what these highly perceptive, very bright people think I am as a person.”

He later found out that playing Jack actually set him free:

“Jack is the side of myself that I’d like to be all the time. I do worry if I’ve said the wrong thing. Jack doesn’t mind the consequences of what he says if he believes it to be true. It was very freeing, actually.”

Jack Rooney is a bold character who isn’t afraid to say what he thinks. He became a big deal in the snack food world rather than staying at university. Bradley likes that Jack came from a simple background much like him and worked hard to do well.

Bradley Had Weird Moments With His Role

Jack has some adventures that Bradley himself has never had. He takes part in a very lifelike virtual reality game in the show, and it puts him in a 16th-century English setting. Bradley had to wear a detailed, custom-made outfit for this part, and it was quite a challenge:

“It was a strange, split personality thing, to suddenly be in a period scene, but still play in 21st century mentality. I did, I think, seven costume fittings for a completely made-to-measure costume that’s on screen for probably less than a minute.”

One of the weirdest parts of shooting was wearing a shiny, chrome helmet that made Bradley look right into his own eyes. He admits that this felt pretty creepy:

“You start to look into your own eyes from half an inch away. It’s a bit like you’re staring right into your soul. You can’t see anything else but your eyes.”

‘3 Body Problem’ is available to watch on Netflix.
