John Cena made his debut as Peacemaker in James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ and later got his own series on Max. He will return in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 as part of the rebooted DCU soon.
It’s not clear if Cena will appear in other rebooted DCU projects, though. The actor replied to a question on the matter at this year’s Comicpalooza by saying:
“Do you know who James Gunn is? He’s got this look when you make him mad, and it’s actually indescribable, but I don’t want to see it ever again. So, I’m just gonna say, no comment.”
Gunn confirmed that the new season will be set after the events of 2025’s ‘Superman,’ and the film will ‘have an impact’ on the show. But he also revealed that Season 1 will not tie into the new DCU, possibly due to the Justice League’s appearance in the finale.
What’s Expected From Season 2?
Filming for ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 started in April 2024 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta. The plot details are still largely unknown, except that Frank Grillo will return as Rick Flag Sr.
Rick will be seeking revenge on Peacemaker for killing his son in ‘The Suicide Squad’ in the upcoming episodes. James Gunn will be back to write the story.
The head of DC Studios wrote all eight episodes and directed five in Season 1. The cast featured Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Gunn was also an executive producer for ‘Peacemaker’ along with Peter Safran, Matt Miller, and John Cena.
