During a new interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, John Cena reflected on his ‘Trainwreck’ sex scene with Amy Schumer.
“Amy is an angel, she made the environment so comfortable, and then when I got the part, eventually they were like, ‘Yeah, it’s a sex scene. We want you to do elaborate and crazy stunt sex, and all those lines you had? We’re probably not going to use them, we’re just going to do this stunt sex scene,'” the actor recalled.
Cena continued, “This is like a great production. But dude, man, catering was right there, and the sound tent was right there. There are so many people you need to make a movie. There is nothing intimate about it. Nothing. So it’s real embarrassing, and on top of that, to do a comedic sex scene when you’re making fun of yourself? They were literally like, ‘Try to have the most awkward sex you possibly can.'”
The actor also previously talked about the scene in a chat with Screen Rant. He explained, “I don’t care who you are, that’s not another day in the life! On screen it looks like two people, but there’s an entire group of folks. I have to admit, it was awkward and embarrassing, but Amy was there to help with her self-deprecating humor.”
“Judd was also able to create a great environment where it just made the situation funny,” he added, referring to director Judd Apatow. “And when you can laugh at yourself, it takes the edge off of everything. We just kind of did our thing!”
He also discussed how the project came to him, “I’ve been very much looking to do a comedy for quite some time. When you’re a WWE superstar you’re kind of stuck in the television world, and that’s where I was spending most of my time. I was approached to audition for ‘Trainwreck,’ but it wasn’t a sure shot though. Then I got asked back to do a table read with Amy and Judd and got cast in the movie from there.”
‘Trainwreck’ came out in 2015 and won many awards and was also nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and a Writers Guild of America Award.
