‘John Wick’ director Chad Stahelski had to step in to fix the upcoming spinoff film ‘Ballerina’ after its early version didn’t meet expectations.
According to a new report, Len Wiseman’s first cut of ‘Ballerina’ wasn’t strong enough. This led Stahelski to take over a ‘significant’ portion of the film’s reshoots. These took place in Prague and lasted two to three months. Wiseman wasn’t present during the reshoots. Lionsgate explained that the delay was to meet fan expectations.
As per The Wrap, insiders say Stahelski’s involvement was crucial because the movie is closely tied to the ‘John Wick’ series. “Of course Chad had to clean up someone else’s mess,” reports state. “Remember, this film is basically ‘John Wick 3.5. This story happens before ‘John Wick 4’ and after that film, they can’t have a failure in anything ‘Wick’ related. Chad is going to do ‘Highlander,’ but cleaning up ‘Ballerina’ pushed him by five months for sure.”
‘Ballerina’ stars Ana de Armas as a female assassin named Eve, and it was originally scheduled to release in the summer of 2024. It was then delayed to June 2025 due to significant reshoots.
Stahelski’s work on the reshoots delayed another project he was working on — a reboot of ‘Highlander’ starring Henry Cavill. It is still in the script stage.
‘Ballerina’ hits theaters next year.
