‘John Wick’ co-creator and director Chad Stahelski revealed that the new prequel movie will be released in anime format.
As per ActioNewz.com, the upcoming movie will explore part of John Wick’s backstory and show some of the ‘impossible task’ he had to complete to retire. This was referenced in the first live-action film. The anime film is expected to have plenty of action and violence just like the original movies.
Stahelski previously shared his love for Japanese anime, saying, “We’re doing a ‘John Wick’ anime because I love Japanese anime so much. So to create all the cool stories that anime could probably achieve better than we could and the TV show to expand that world, and we’ll still get our fix, you know what I mean? And have all the fun.”
Chad Stahelski has been a key figure behind the success of the ‘John Wick’ series. He directed all four live-action movies. He is also helping with the upcoming film ‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina,’ set to release next year. Stahelski is no stranger to anime either. He’s currently working on action scenes for an upcoming science-fiction anime called ‘Lazarus,’ a project for Adult Swim created by Shinichiro Watanabe and MAPPA.
The ‘John Wick’ series originally follows the story of a retired hitman forced back into the criminal world after a Russian mobster steals his car and kills his dog. These events push him into a violent journey of revenge.
We will get to see what led John Wick to retire in the first place with this new prequel.
