One of the world’s highest-paid Hollywood actors, Johnny Depp lost a libel case against Britain’s The Sun, which published a report regarding that Depp was an abusive husband his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
The 57-year-old actor sued the tabloid newspaper, which also described him as a “wife-beater” in the said report titled “Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?,” and the executive editor Dan Wootton.
However, the United Kingdom’s High Court ruled in The Sun’s favor and the report was found “substantially true.” The court investigated all shreds of evidence including photos, audio recordings, Depp’s text messages, and determined the actor had caused Heard to suffer significant injuries.
On November 2, Judge Andrew Nicol said that he found that the great majority of alleged assaults of Heard by Depp and added:
“I have reached these conclusions having examined in detail the 14 incidents on which the defendants rely, as well as the over-arching considerations which the claimant submitted I should take into account.”
Heard’s attorney Elaine Charlson Bredehoft welcomed the decision of the UK’s High Court. She said that decision and judgment are not a surprise. Bredehoft added that as representative of Heard, she is committed to obtaining justice for the ‘Aquaman’ actor in the United States court.
