‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Director Reveals Why Lady Gaga’s Same-Sex Kiss Scene Was Cut

Todd Phillips took out a scene where Gaga kisses a woman outside a courthouse in Gotham City.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, The director of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ Todd Phillips, shared why he cut a scene where Lady Gaga kisses a woman.

“It had dialogue in it, and, all of a sudden, I wanted it to be more of a music and vibe moment,” he said. “For that moment to have played, it needed dialogue behind it. Meaning, the woman said something, and then Gaga stopped and did this thing, and it just kind of got in the way of the moment.”

The scene happens before one of Arthur Fleck’s (Joaquin Phoenix) court appearances. Gotham’s District Attorney Harvey Dent is prosecuting Arthur for his past crimes. When he’s not in court, Arthur is locked up in Arkham State Hospital, where he starts a romance with Lee (Gaga), another patient.

In the final version, Lee, after being released, goes to the courthouse to support Arthur. She sings and dances as she walks up the stairs. In the original version, Lee kisses a woman from the crowd of protestors.

Gaga fans shared videos from the set of ‘Joker 2’ on social media during the film’s opening weekend. They showed scenes with Gaga that were not in the final movie. One scene showed Lee giving Arthur to the Gotham police, but that was also cut from the film.

Even though fans waited years for it, the sequel has flopped with critics and at the box office. It’s at 33% on Rotten Tomatoes and made only $40 million in its first weekend.

It made only $37.8 million in its first weekend, which is less than half of what the first film earned. The sequel disappointed fans by focusing too much on old events from the first movie. The movie cost around $200 million to make, much more than the first one.
