In a recent discussion with Collider’s Christina Radish, Jon Bernthal touched upon the broad appeal of his character Frank Castle from ‘The Punisher’ and tried to explain the reasons why he resonates with a wide audience.
Bernthal argued that Frank Castle strikes a chord globally and suggested that his traits are present, in some form, within everyone:
“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has in the hearts and minds of comic book fans, first responders, people in the military, and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me, and I care about that character deeply.”
He then admitted he feels a personal connection with Castle, so he sees it important to remain faithful to the original material:
“I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right, and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is On the Way
‘The Punisher’ is a spinoff of ‘Daredevil.’ The series concluded its two-season run on Netflix before the transition of Marvel content to Disney+.
Bernthal is set to reprise his role in the upcoming ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ which is scheduled for a 2025 release on Disney+. The show, part of Phase Five of the MCU, will feature 18 episodes across two segments. Despite changes in production and delays due to the Writers Guild of America strike, the series is highly anticipated.
Bernthal’s career continues with upcoming roles in ‘Snow Ponies‘ and a rumored part in the sequel to ‘The Accountant.‘
