Jonathan Majors’ ‘Magazine Dreams’ Gets New Release Date After Being Dropped By Disney

Disney’s Searchlight Pictures dropped the film following its star’s arrest on charges of assault in 2023.

After eight months with no updates, ‘Magazine Dreams’ finally found a new distributor. Deadline recently wrote that Briarcliff Entertainment acquired the domestic distribution rights to the film and plans to release it in early 2025.

The company’s founder, Tom Ortenberg, confirmed the news by saying, “‘Magazine Dreams’ is a visceral experience that challenges the perceptions of ambition and identity. Elijah’s film made a well-deserved splash in Sundance and Briarcliff is looking forward to taking his story to the big screen across the country in early 2025.”

His statement went on, “Jonathan Majors’ transcendent performance as Killian Maddox will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most compelling and transformative roles in recent cinema history. We are honored to bring this extraordinary work to theaters nationwide, inviting audiences to witness a story that will resonate long after the credits roll.”

The Elijah Bynum-directed film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023, just before Majors was convicted of assault and harassment.

The actor’s performance as an aspiring bodybuilder, who continues taking steroids despite warnings from his doctors, received positive reviews at the festival though Disney and other studios removed him from several projects following the accusations.

The movie’s cast also included Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris.
