Josh Brolin, who brought Thanos to life in ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame,’ recently voiced the character’s variants in the ‘What If…?’ Season 2 on Disney+. While talking to ComicBook.com about his upcoming role in ‘Dune: Part Two,’ Brolin discussed the chances of Thanos returning to the screen:
“You know, I hear, kind of, like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back. And there’s the ‘What If…?’ series, and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain… You learn something new every day.”
Thanos is the most killed character in the MCU, facing death twice in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and a few times in ‘What If…?’ and ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.’
The Character’s Story Seemingly Ended
With Marvel’s ongoing exploration of the multiverse, it’s possible to see the character’s comeback in live-action format in the upcoming projects, especially the ‘Avengers’ sequels. While talking about the end of Thanos with ‘Endgame’ in a chat with ‘Jess Cagle Show,’ Brolin said of his role:
“We’ve kind of bookended this thing after 10 years. I was so happy, and I loved being involved in [the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’] so much because that wasn’t the intention when I first got involved.”
Revealing that the villain was planned to make a small appearance in the MCU, his words went on:
“The whole Thanos character, it was more of a cameo and they liked the character so much. They had never felt like they had a villain that was substantial enough for what they were creating, and then I think they felt like they found it, and then there were two movies that kind of revolved around it. It was a lot of fun, and it worked out for them very nicely.”
The Actor Has Other Projects In Line
While it’s unclear if Josh Brolin will reprise his role as Thanos in the future, he’s set to appear on the big screen with ‘Dune: Part Two’ on March 1.
The Marvel actor is also a cast member of the upcoming comedy film ‘Brothers’ along with Peter Dinklage, Brendan Fraser, Glenn Close, and Taylour Paige.
