Josh Brolin passed on an offer to play Hal Jordan in DC’s ‘Lanterns’ show in early September. Following that, the role went to Kyle Chandler, and Brolin addressed the casting in a recent interview with ComicBook.
“You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay,” he shared. “It’s working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what’s down the line, man.”
The actor already made his mark in the superhero world, playing Thanos in the MCU and Cable in ‘Deadpool 2.’ While he hinted at being open to future roles in the DC Universe, he’s currently focused on other projects, including his latest film ‘Brothers,’ which also stars Peter Dinklage.
On the ‘Lanterns’ front, Chris Mundy is working on the script along with Damon Lindelof and Tom King. The series will center around a murder mystery and reportedly kick off a new phase for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
“We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon, and Tom at the helm,” the co-CEOs shared in a statement back in June. “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and ‘Lanterns’ brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with ‘Superman.’”
The John Stewart actor is not known yet, but Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner from the new ‘Superman’ is expected to appear in the series. Filming for ‘Lanterns’ will begin next year.
