Josh Brolin spoke with PEOPLE ahead of the release of his new memoir ‘From Under the Truck.’ He shared a conversation he once had with Steven Spielberg, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Columbus for the 1985 hit movie in which Brolin starred.
The adventure comedy, which also featured Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, and Ke Huy Quan, was Brolin’s debut acting role at age 16. During the filming of this classic movie, Brolin shared his interpretation of his character Brandon’s inner thoughts with Spielberg. “I think [my character] Brandon is freaking out, and the tunnels represent the inside of his mother’s womb, and he’s trying to cut that umbilical cord,” Brolin said at the time. Spielberg responded, “He looked at me, and he goes, ‘Yeah, just act. Just say what’s on the page,’” Brolin recalls. “He wasn’t being an a–hole; he was right.”
Brolin calls his breakthrough role “probably the greatest experience of my life.”
Recent there were rumors suggesting that ‘The Goonies 2’ might be in the works. However multiple cast members from the original 1985 movie now confirmed that a sequel is not happening. Sean Astin was the one who stirred speculation by posting a fake poster for a sequel titled ‘Goonies Are Good Enough,’ but it seems his post was more playful than serious. The poster credited Steven Spielberg as the director, and this led some fans to believe there could be truth to the rumors.
Joe Pantoliano, who played Francis Fratelli in the movie, called the idea of a sequel a ‘hoax’ on his social media account. He denied any plans for The Goonies 2 but suggested an alternative idea: creating a documentary or reality show about the cast as they approach the film’s 40th anniversary.
