Reports suggested earlier this month that DC set its sights on Josh Brolin to play Hal Jordan in the new ‘Lanterns’ series. But The Hollywood Reporter recently shared that the actor passed on the role that Ryan Reynolds played in 2011’s ‘Green Lantern.’
‘Lanterns’ already assembled its creative team, bringing Chris Mundy on board as the showrunner. Mundy will co-write the eight-episode show along with Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
Brolin wasn’t the only actor speculated for the lead cast. Rumors also suggested that DC was eyeing Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor to play Hal Jordan, although sources denied them.
The series is currently in the casting phase and searching for directors, with filming set to start next January in Atlanta. It’s not clear who will play the other Lanterns in the show either.
Aldis Hodge previously showed interest in the role of John Stewart, but the studio has yet to announce who will take on that part.
‘Lanterns’ will focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a mysterious murder in Central America. The storyline will reportedly have a darker tone like ‘True Detective.’
