Josh Brolin Vows To Quit Acting If ‘Dune’ Director Denis Villeneuve Doesn’t Get Oscar Nomination

The actor believes Villeneuve deserves recognition at the Oscars this year for his work on ‘Dune: Part Two.’

While promoting his new memoir, ‘From Under The Truck,’ in a recent interview with Variety, Josh Brolin shared strong support for Denis Villeneuve’s nomination at the upcoming Academy Awards.

“If he doesn’t get nominated [for an Oscar] this year, I’ll quit acting,” the actor, who portrayed Paul Astreides’ mentor, Gurney Halleck, in the sequel, told the outlet.

“It was a better movie than the first one,” he added. “When I watched it, it felt like my brain was broken open. It’s masterful, and Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards have any meaning whatsoever, they’ll recognize him.”

Villeneuve didn’t get a nomination for Best Director for the first ‘Dune’ film at the 2022 Oscars, but the movie did get recognition in ten categories including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, winning six of them.

The director previously received a nomination for Best Director with 2016’s ‘Arrival,’ which also secured one win for Best Sound Editing from its eight nominations.

This year, Villeneuve is seen as likely to be nominated for an Oscar again, given the commercial and critical success of ‘Dune: Part Two.’ The film boasts a cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Christopher Walken, Rebecca Ferguson, and Javier Bardem.

Denis Villeneuve is currently developing a third installment in the ‘Dune’ series, based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel series. This next film, adapting ‘Dune Messiah,’ reportedly aims to be more than a traditional threequel.
