Julia Garner Becomes The New Silver Surfer In ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot

The latest news confirms a female take on the Silver Surfer for the upcoming reboot.

Deadline recently reported that Julia Garner will make her Marvel debut as the Herald of Galactus in the new ‘Fantastic Four’ film. Garner’s role won’t be a gender-swapped version of Norrin Radd unlike the early rumors. She will portray Shalla-Bal.

The Empress of Zenn-La was Norrin Radd’s first love in the Marvel comics. She got the same cosmic powers as Radd and served as a twin herald alongside him thanks to Franklin Richards’ Galactus.

Early Rumors Hinted At Different Plans

There were whispers that Anya Taylor-Joy might bring a female Silver Surfer to life before Garner’s casting was confirmed. However, these rumors were put to rest in early March.

Reports suggested that Marvel gave up on a gender-swapped Surfer a few weeks ago. MCU Film News on X shared:

“Silver Surfer to be Portrayed as Male in ‘Fantastic Four.’”

The Reboot’s Cast And Plot

Garner joins the hero cast of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing in ‘The Fantastic Four.’

The casting for the film’s villains is still up in the air, but Cillian Murphy and Mads Mikkelsen are rumored for Doctor Doom. Javier Bardem is frontrunner for Galactus, although his schedule might be a problem

Plot details are under wraps, but there’s talk that ‘The Fantastic Four’ could be set in an alternate universe.
