In a recent chat with People, Kaley Cuoco talked about whether she would play Penny again in a ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot.
“I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre,” the actress said. She also referred to the 12 years as “some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”
“I would absolutely reprise that role. 100 per cent. I love that character, and I always will,” Cuoco replied when asked if she would consider playing Penny again.
Cuoco played Penny on the popular show for all 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019. In 2017, two years before ‘The Big Bang Theory’ ended, a spin-off called Young Sheldon started. It focused on a young Sheldon Cooper. Cuoco didn’t appear in the spin-off, but she voiced a talking swimming pool in season three.
Kaley previously reflected on the appeal of the show, explaining, “To have a hit show, you have to have characters that are lovable. These guys are so lovable and charming and non-offensive and they’re not in your face. And my character is not the raging sexpot who women don’t want to watch and men are bothered by. She’s not obnoxious and the characters are all so lovable.”
“The other thing is, you have to want to watch them and I think people are falling in love with Leonard, Sheldon and a lot of these characters, and they want them to do well. They want them to get the girl in the end and to succeed,” she added.
Since her big break on ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ Cuoco has acted in shows like ‘The Flight Attendant’ and ‘Based On A True Story.’ She also voiced Harley Quinn in an animated series and starred in movies like ‘The Wedding Ringer’ with Kevin Hart and ‘Meet Cute’ with Pete Davidson.
Earlier this year, CBS approved a Young Sheldon spin-off about Sheldon’s older brother Georgie and his wife Mandy as they become young parents. The show is called ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ and just premiered its first episode in the U.S. on October 17. A UK premiere date has not been announced yet.
