Speaking with Screen Rant, Karen Gillan has once again expressed her interest in playing DC’s Poison Ivy, but in a romantic storyline that involves Harley Quinn.
During the conversation, Screen Rant asked Gillan which iteration of Poison Ivy she would like to portray. As a response, she said enthusiastically:
“Oh, that’s a good question. In a relationship with Harley Quinn sounds excellent.”
For years, fans wanted to see Gillan as DC Universe’s (DCU) Poison Ivy. Gillan herself has not been shy about her willingness to join the DCU, particularly under the direction of James Gunn, with whom she worked on the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ series.
Margot Robbie Agrees With Gillan
Margot Robbie, who brought Harley Quinn to life in several films, also voiced her support for a romantic plot between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. In December 2022, Robbie revealed her long-standing desire to see this relationship come to fruition on the big screen, telling ComicBook.com:
“I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that. I want it, too.”
When asked about her dream cast for the role, she didn’t give any names, though:
“Honestly… I always picture Poison Ivy [like] in the comics. I don’t really actually picture an actress doing it.”
Despite Robbie’s remarks about the Harley Quinn-Poison Ivy romance, it remains uncertain if she will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the DCU or if a new actress will step into the role. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga is set to portray Harley Quinn in the upcoming ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,‘ which will be released on October 4, 2024.
On the other hand, Gillan could potentially appear in the DCU in upcoming projects such as the Arkham Asylum TV show or the new Batman movie, ‘The Brave and The Bold.‘ However, James Gunn has not yet revealed plans for Poison Ivy or Harley Quinn in the revamped DCU.
