Kathryn Hahn Says It Was Her Idea To Get Naked For ‘Agatha All Along’

The scene marks the first time a female character in the MCU has been shown nude.

Kathryn Hahn revealed that it was her idea to get naked for a scene in ‘Agatha All Along’s season premiere.

The episode aired on Disney+ on September 18. It features a moment where Agatha rushes outside her house without any clothes on, and it briefly shows her bare butt. This made history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it was the first time a female character has been seen nude in the franchise.

In an interview with Variety, Hahn explained that she came up with the idea herself. She believed the scene needed to show Agatha at her weakest point, both emotionally and physically. “I thought it was good to see her as stripped down as we possibly could, which spoke into her powerlessness at the present moment,” Hahn said.

She explained that Agatha had lost all her powers in the series at this point, and the nudity was meant to show that vulnerability before Agatha began her journey to regain her strength. “She’s been stripped of all of her power at this point in the series,” she continued. “So it became about illustrating that gap between that moment and her finding her power again.”

The show’s creator, Jac Schaeffer, shared that Hahn even went off-script during filming. “Kathryn was like, ‘Would she grab the robe? I don’t feel like she would grab the robe. I feel like she would not care about being naked in front of the neighbors,'” she recalled. “I told her, ‘That is the greatest idea I’ve ever heard.’

“Kathryn has done so much work, and she’s done a lot of nudity and other things,” Schaeffer praised the idea. “So it also felt very subversive to get Kathryn Hahn’s nudity into the MCU.”

‘Agatha All Along’ follows Agatha Harkness after the events of ‘WandaVision.’ Agatha teams up with a mysterious goth teen who helps her break free from a spell. The first two episodes are currently streaming on Disney+.
