During a recent conversation with Screen Rant, Kathryn Newton, known for her role as Cassie Lang in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ credited Paul Rudd’s advice for her choice to lead in the upcoming horror comedy, ‘Lisa Frankenstein.’
Newton shared the guidance she received from Rudd, her co-star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Rudd, who has portrayed the Ant-Man since 2015, offered Newton a simple but important criterion for choosing roles:
“I did this movie right after ‘Ant-Man,’ and I actually asked Paul for his advice on it. And it was great advice. He said, ‘If you think that no one else can play a role except you, and you can do your best to elevate a character or a story, you should do it.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, there’s nobody crazy enough to do this Lisa Frankenstein role.'”
As it appears, this advice came at a time when Newton was contemplating her involvement in ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ right after her stint in the MCU.
What is ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ About?
Directed by Zelda Williams in her feature-length debut and penned by Diablo Cody, ‘Lisa Frankenstein‘ spins a modern tale inspired by Mary Shelley’s classic, focusing on a teenage goth girl who embarks on a bizarre journey with a reanimated Victorian-era corpse.
The film is set in a world filled with trauma, horror, and oddities, which mirrors the environment the new generation of Marvel heroes, including Cassie Lang, has to deal with. So, Rudd made this advice as Newton embarks on a path that blends the fantastical elements of her role in ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ with the emotional and psychological depth of Lang.
‘Lisa Frankenstein’ is scheduled for release on February 9, 2024, in the United States and March 1, 2024, in the United Kingdom.
Rudd’s career continues with other projects such as ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,‘ ‘Death of a Unicorne,‘ ‘Friendship,‘ and ‘The Invite,‘ while Newton is set to appear in the horror film ‘Abigail‘ besides ‘Lisa Frankenstein.’
