In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Kathryn Newton expressed interest in her character joining the ‘Young Avengers’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the actress also revealed her past fixation with being at the top during high school.
During the conversation at the Sundance Film Festival, Newton discussed her character’s future in the MCU. She didn’t reveal any specific details about the potential ‘Young Avengers’ but shared her enthusiasm about the possibility of Cassie joining a team. Reflecting on her competitive spirit, Newton remarked:
“I’d like to see her on a team. I feel like for me, when I was in high school on my golf team, championship ring right here, I was obsessed with being number one. I wanted to be the team captain, and my coach was like, ‘No, captain, that’s not how we do it here. We’re all equal, and be on a team and win and lose together.’ So, I feel like that’s something that everyone can relate to, is having to be together on the team on the rise and be together in trenches. So, I’d like to see some more of that.”
Newton, who stars as Cassie Lang, made her debut in the MCU with the latest Ant-Man installment. In this film, her character steps up to fight alongside her father, Scott Lang.
Is There Going To Be a ‘Young Avengers’?
A concept originating from Marvel Comics in 2005, The Young Avengers features young superheroes with connections to the Avengers. The MCU has gradually introduced several members from the comics, including Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Eli Bradley, Kid Loki, and America Chavez.
The idea of a ‘Young Avengers’ team was first hinted at the end of ‘The Marvels’ (2023), where Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) meets Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to discuss forming a team of young heroes, including Cassie Lang. While the ‘Young Avengers’ project remains unconfirmed, this teaser has sparked widespread speculation and excitement among fans.
Directed by Peyton Reed ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ is currently available for streaming on Disney+. Meanwhile, Newton’s upcoming projects include ‘Lisa Frankenstein‘ and ‘Abigail.‘
