During the 2024 Saturn Awards ceremony held on Sunday, Keanu Reeves spoke to People and made an emotional tribute to his late co-star Lance Reddick, revealing he wrote him a personal letter about his role in the success of the ‘John Wick’ film series.
At the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport hotel, where Reeves was honored with the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award during the ceremony, Reeves recalled the memories and the impact Reddick had on the ‘John Wick’ series:
“He had such a grace, and he was funny. I mean, humor-wise. I don’t know. I think [my] favorite memory… it’s the scenes that I had with him and the relationship that he and John Wick had, Charon.”
Touching upon their on-screen relationship and its influence on the audience’s connection to John Wick, Reeves continued:
“I once told him… Well, actually I wrote him a letter and I said, ‘people love John Wick because Charon loves John Wick.’ Because that character loved John Wick, that made John Wick okay. And so when I got to act with him, we had such an affection.”
The Saturn Awards accolade, named in honor of Reddick, recognizes not only the talent of the recipient but also their character. Reddick, who passed away in March 2023 at the age of 60, was known for his portrayal of Charon, the concierge at New York City’s Continental Hotel in the film series.
Reddick’s Legacy and the Aftermath of His Passing
In response to Reddick’s passing, Reeves, alongside ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ director Chad Stahelski, dedicated the film to his memory.
As for recent news, the ‘Percy Jackson’ team continues to feel the loss of Reddick. The series’ showrunners, Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, discussed the challenge of filling the Zeus role previously played by the actor. They said their intention is to honor his legacy while finding a new actor to bring their own interpretation to the character.
On the other hand, Reeves is getting ready to release a new book titled ‘The Book of Elsewhere,‘ co-authored with China Miéville. Besides, he continues his acting career with roles in the upcoming projects ‘Good Fortune‘ and the ‘John Wick’ spin-off film ‘Ballerina.‘
