Kelly Macdonald Officially Joins ‘Lanterns’ Cast Alongside Kyle Chandler

The actress has officially signed on for a supporting role in the new DC series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kelly Macdonald will play Hal Jordan’s love interest in ‘Lanterns.’ Early rumors suggested said lover would be Star Sapphire, but the outlet noted that the actress won’t appear as any existing DC Comics hero or villain in the series.

Instead, Macdonald will take on the role of Sheriff Kerry, “a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.”

The crime drama’s cast will also include Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. The Green Lanterns will team up to investigate a murder mystery in the American heartland.

Producer James Hawes will direct the first two episodes, joining an experienced creative team that includes Emmy-winning creator Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and comic book writer Tom King.

‘Lanterns’ will start production in the United Kingdom in the first quarter of 2025, aiming for a 2026 release. Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, who will debut in James Gunn’s upcoming ‘Superman’ reboot, will likely have a supporting role in the series.
