Kelsey Grammer Reacts To Losing The ‘Beast’ Role

He felt a ‘sinking feeling’ when he found out the franchise was moving on without him.

Kelsey Grammer opened up about his feelings when he lost his role as Beast in the X-Men movies.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Grammer shared that it was very hard for him to hear that ‘X-Men: First Class’ was moving on without him. He said it was one of the most challenging pieces of news he had ever faced:

“The most challenging things I’ve ever heard, actually, really… One was after I just played Beast – [to Anthony Mackie] my days in Marvel – and they came up and said, ‘We have the most wonderful next film planned.’ And this was Lauren Donner, and she said ‘We’re going to go back in time!’ And I suddenly had that sinking feeling of ‘Oh, so I won’t be in it – so my performance as Beast will not be in it. That’s what you’re telling me.’ And sure enough, it went back in time and I was gone. So that was really exciting news for me.”

Grammer was part of a chat with Theo James, Anthony Mackie, and others. You can watch the full interview below.

He Made A Surprising Cameo In ‘The Marvels’

Kelsey Grammer recently returned as Beast in a surprise scene at the end of ‘The Marvels.’ Let’s just hope that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will bring Grammer back for a bigger part in future movies.

Grammer played Hank McCoy, aka Beast, in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ in 2006. The movie itself got a lot of criticism, but Grammer’s performance was well-liked by fans.

The X-Men movies needed a new direction after ‘The Last Stand,’ and the producers decided to make a prequel called ‘X-Men: First Class.’ This meant they needed a younger actor to play Beast, so they cast Nicholas Hoult. Hoult went on to play Beast in four X-Men movies: ‘First Class,’ ‘Days of Future Past,’ ‘Apocalypse,’ and ‘Dark Phoenix.’
