Kevin Costner is determined to complete his Western epic ‘Horizon’ despite the struggles he’s faced so far.
‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’ was released in June 2024 but didn’t do well at the box office, earning around $36 million worldwide. This performance caused Warner Bros. to delay the second chapter, which was supposed to come out just six weeks after the first.
Costner invested $38 million of his own money to film parts 1 and 2 at the same time. According to Entertainment Weekly‘s report, he was recently at a press conference during the Venice International Film Festival where Chapter 2 premiered.
Costner is now pushing ahead with plans to direct Chapter 3. “I have to hurry and not let the rock fall back downhill. I’ve gotta go put my hands on it again and start to push it up,” he said, becoming emotional as he spoke about his passion for the project. “It’s a rope that I cannot let go of. I don’t know how I’m gonna make 3 right now, but I’m gonna make it.”
Costner admitted that the poor reception of Chapter 1 played a role in Warner Bros.’ decision to delay the sequel. But he says he always wanted the movies to come out five to six months apart, so the delay fits with his original plan.
‘Horizon’ is something Costner has been thinking about since 1988, and he isn’t giving up. He mentioned that even when things don’t go as planned, it only makes him more determined to finish what he started. He believes the story is important because it reminds people of the hardships faced during America’s westward expansion.
‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’ is streaming on Max, and more details about Chapter 2’s release will be coming soon.
