Kevin Costner turned down Chris Hemsworth and decided to star in his own upcoming movie.
Chris Hemsworth told Entertainment Tonight that he really wanted to be part of this project. He even spent an hour trying to convince Costner to give him the role. Unfortunately for Hemsworth, Costner felt he was the right fit for the part and politely declined his request:
“There was a movie, a script that I’d read and loved and was like, ‘I want to get that,’ and then someone said, ‘Kevin Costner has that [role]. I’d love [to have] him as a director. I was like, ‘Goddamnit!’ [I spent] an hour the other day trying to convince him, and he was like, ‘I’m doing it, kid.’ Didn’t work. I didn’t get the part.”
Costner later explained why he made this decision. He did praise Hemsworth and called him a great actor. He was sure the Thor actor would surely find another good movie soon.
“It’s a love story, but as long as I’m still young enough to play it, I’ll play it. Chris will have to wait his turn. He’s so handsome, and he’s so good. He’s going to have to go find his [own] love story. [But] I’m glad he likes this one. If I reach a moment where I [don’t] think I could do that, I would [reach out]. He’s certainly one of our great leading men right now.”

So, What’s This Movie About?
Variety reports that it’s a small but interesting film about a man and a woman. The film’s main character is a horse wrangler, someone who takes care of horses. Hemsworth found this detail appealing because his wife loves horses:
“My wife read [the script] and loves horses. We have 10 or 11 horses back home, and so she’s like, ‘You’ve got to do this.’”
It seems Hemsworth will have to wait for another opportunity as Costner thinks he’ll do best in the role. He currently has another big project, though. It’s a Western epic called ‘Horizon.’ He already completed two films in this series and plans for four in total. The first movie is expected to debut next month at the Cannes Film Festival.
