Kevin McNally Gets Arrested For Abuse After Defending Pirates Co-Star Johnny Depp’s Innocence

McNally, famous for playing in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ was arrested on charges of domestic abuse. Before this, he had spoken up for Johnny Depp when Depp faced similar accusations.

As reported by The Sun, Kevin McNally, who starred as Joshamee Gibbs in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series, has been arrested on charges of domestic abuse. This follows McNally’s previous public defense of Johnny Depp, his ‘Pirates’ co-star.

The British actor, 67, who portrayed the loyal ally to Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow across all five Pirates movies, faces serious allegations. Reports from The Sun indicate McNally was taken into custody on suspicion of inflicting injury causing a traumatic condition to a victim identified as a current or former spouse, cohabitant, or parent of his child.

The arrest came shortly before McNally was due to appear at a Dr. Who fan convention in Los Angeles, an appearance that was abruptly canceled for ‘personal reasons.’ Following his arrest, McNally was released on a bail of £40,000 and is expected in court next month.

After the news, the relationship between McNally and his wife, Phyllis Logan, a BAFTA-winning actress known for her role in ‘Downton Abbey,’ became a topic of interest. The couple, who share a son, David, born in 1996, have been a familiar pair in the British acting scene. When approached by The Sun, Logan denied knowledge of McNally’s arrest.

McNally Showed Support For Depp During His Defamation Case

McNally’s legal troubles come in the wake of the highly publicized Depp-Heard trial. In 2022, a jury found Heard’s op-ed statements about Depp to be false and defamatory, awarding Depp significant damages. Despite these controversies, Depp received public support, even an online petition receiving 500,000 signatures for his return to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise.

In 2021, amid allegations against Depp by his ex-wife Amber Heard, McNally voiced his support for Depp, praising Depp’s character and humanitarian efforts:

“I’ve never seen a hint of any dark side to Johnny. I see a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don’t see any impediment to him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow. I think there was a general feeling that there is no Pirates franchise without Jack. And there’s probably a lot of truth in that.”

Disney decided to move forward without Depp in future ‘Pirates’ installments and explore a reboot with a female-led cast. It’s rumored that Ayo Edebiri can replace Depp’s part in an upcoming movie. As McNally prepares for his upcoming court appearance with seven projects on the horizon, his future in the entertainment industry remains unknown.
