Kit Harington Confesses ‘Mistakes’ In Game Of Thrones Final Season

The actor believes the finale was ‘rushed.’

The eighth season of ‘Game of Thrones’ aired on HBO six years ago and has faced significant criticism since its debut. Kit Harington reflected on the finale during a recent interview with GQ magazine.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think there were mistakes made, story-wise, towards the end maybe,” Harington commented. “I think there were some interesting choices that didn’t quite work.”

The actor cited the cast and crew’s exhaustion as a factor in the last season’s downfall. “I think if there was any fault with the end of ‘Thrones,’ is that we were all so fucking tired, we couldn’t have gone on longer,” he explained.

“And so, I understand some people thought it was rushed and I might agree with them. But I’m not sure there was any alternative. I look at pictures of me in that final season and I look exhausted. I look spent. I didn’t have another season in me.”

Harington still tried to get back into the franchise in a sequel about Jon Snow. But HBO recently shelved the project.

“We spent a couple of years back and forth developing it. And it just didn’t… nothing got us excited enough,” the actor shared about ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.’ “In the end, I kind of backed out and said, ‘I think if we push this any further and keep developing it we could end up with something that’s not good.’ And that’s the last thing we all want.”

Meanwhile, the second season of the prequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ arrived in June. “I just can’t watch it,” Harington told the Associated Press last week. “I think it’s just, for me, I spent too long there. And I wish them all the best and I hear it’s wonderful and going really well, but I don’t think I’ll ever watch that show.”

‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 received an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite a 22% drop in viewership from its first season, HBO has renewed the series for a third season.
