Kristen Bell and Jonathan Groff are gearing up to star in the upcoming musical film titled ‘Molly and the Moon’ by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, known for CBS’ legendary sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother.’
According to a report published by DEADLINE, Bell, recently appeared on ‘The Good Place,’ will play ‘Kate,’ while Groff portraying the lead character’s father, ‘Brain.’ What’s more, the musician, known for his contributions to the movies such as ‘Sing‘ and ‘Pitch Perfect,’ Harvey Mason Jr will be the executive music producer, ‘High Fidelity’s Nathan Larson will work as the composer and Stephanie Diaz-Matos, known for ‘The Get Down, will be the music supervisor.
According to Thomas, co-writer, and co-director, even though the film’s genre is a musical comedy, it has dramatic elements that reflect Thomas’ tough experience with his child, Elliot. The director told of how he and Craig started their musical film project; everything began with born of Elliot.
“We discovered after he was born that Elliot had Jacobsen Syndrome, a rare genetic deletion where a piece of one of the 11th chromosomes has broken off, resulting in the loss of certain genes that go into making a healthy, typical baby.”
Then Thomas and Craig realized the connection between Elliot and ‘Molly’ who tries to find her own way in difficult circumstances, and Elliot’s story formed the basis of the ‘Molly and the Moon.’
This is not the first time Bell and Groff work together: As fans remember, the duo collaborated in animated Disney films ‘Frozen.‘
