Kristin Chenoweth Reacts To ‘Wicked’ Movie With Ariana Grande Taking Over Her Glinda Role

Chenoweth starred in the original Broadway production alongside Idina Menzel over 20 years ago.

Kristin Chenoweth neither confirmed nor denied a possible cameo in the upcoming ‘Wicked’ movie while recently talking to Us Weekly but still shared her thoughts about the new version directed by Jon M. Chu.

Speaking also on behalf of Idina Menzel, she said that they’re “both really happy for the girls (Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo). We can’t wait to see them take on these characters.”

Following a screening with the cast, the actress shared further approval in an Instagram video she took on her ride home. The caption read, “Y’all won’t even believe how good it is. I’ll never be the same!”

Chenoweth and Menzel starred as Glinda and Elphaba in ‘Wicked’ back in 2003. Their performances in the play based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel received critical acclaim. Menzel won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical while Chenoweth got a nomination.

The film adaptation brought Grande and Erivo in to replace the original actresses as the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West. The story explored the duo’s early days at Shiz University and meeting with the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum).

First part of ‘Wicked’ will see release on November 22, 2024, with a sequel planned for November 21, 2025.
