‘That ’90s Show’ actor Kurtwood Smith announced that Netflix decided not to move ahead with Season 3.
“I know you have been asking me when season 3 is coming, but I have tough news…Netflix will not be renewing,” Smith wrote in his Instagram post. “I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of the fans everywhere who supported and watched the show.”
He continued, “You have come up to me in random parts of the world when I’m traveling and reached out to me through social media and just been so wonderful.”
“I’ve loved every minute of getting to bring Grandpa Red to life for you all,” the actor shared. “I’ve said it before, but it’s worth mentioning again…this show had so much heart behind it and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers and crew an actor could hope to work with.”
Smith added, “Thanks for letting Red and Kitty, their grandkid, all their grandkids friends and neighbors, the original cast members of ‘That 70’s Show’ and all of our wonderful guest cast members entertain you for two seasons.”
Smith played Red Forman on ‘That ’90s Show.’ He returned to the role from the original series, ‘That ’70s Show.’ Debra Jo Rupp also returned as his wife, Kitty, in both shows.
The ’90s series is set 15 years after the first one. It follows Eric and Donna’s daughter, Callie Haverda, visiting her grandparents, the Formans, for the summer.
Other original stars, like Wilmer Valderrama, Mila Kunis, and Ashton Kutcher, also made guest appearances. The cast included Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos.
The show’s first season came out on Netflix in 2023 with 10 episodes, called ‘Part 1.’ The second season had 16 episodes divided into ‘Part 2’ and ‘Part 3,’ which ended in August.
