Kyle Chandler Will Reportedly Join DCU’s Lanterns Series As Hal Jordan

Despite not being one of the previously rumored contenders for the role, Chandler is reportedly in talks to take it on in DC’s upcoming ‘Lanterns’ series.

Earlier reports mentioned actors like Josh Brolin, Ewan McGregor, Matthew McConaughey, and Chris Pine as potential names to play Hal Jordan. However, according to a recent news by Deadline, Kyle Chandler has now entered discussions for the part.

The Hollywood Reporter added that Chandler’s deal with DC currently doesn’t include any movie commitments. If cast, his Hal Jordan will partner with John Stewart to investigate a murder on Earth. The search for a younger actor to play Stewart is still ongoing.

Nathan Fillion, who will play Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ reboot, is expected to appear in a supporting role. “We have a few other Lanterns peppered in there,” James Gunn said of the project after its announcement. “But this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like ‘True Detective’ with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over Precinct Earth. In it, they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our largest story of the DCU.”

Stephen Williams is reportedly in talks to direct the pilot, with Lucy Tcherniak potentially directing a number of episodes. Damon Lindelof is developing the first episode’s script alongside Chris Mundy and comic book writer Tom King. Other names like Justin Britt-Gibson, Breannah Gibson, and Vanessa Baden Kelly are also reportedly involved, though not yet confirmed.

Production for ‘Lanterns’ is set to begin in early 2025 in the UK, with a potential release in 2026.
