Laura Dern talked about the age difference between her and Sam Neill in a 2022 interview with The Times.
Dern and Neill played lovers in the first ‘Jurassic Park’ film in 1993. The original script described Alan Grant in his mid-30s and Ellie Sattler in her late 20s. But the gap between the actors was far greater than that:
“Which at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady! It never occurred to me until I opened a magazine, and there was an article called ‘Old geezers and gals…’”
The actress commented:
“Well, it felt completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill. And it was only now, when we returned in a moment of cultural awareness about the patriarchy, that I was, like, ‘Wow! We’re not the same age?’ Our age gap in ‘Jurassic Park’ was completely inappropriate.”
The Two’s Love Bloomed Again
Ellie and Alan’s relationship ended after they disagreed on having kids. Dern didn’t return in ‘The Lost World’ to reprise her role but appeared in the third film married with children.
The actress also reunited with her original co-stars Neill and Jeff Goldblum in 2022’s ‘Jurassic World: Dominion.’ The film rekindled the relationship between Ellie and Alan.
Fans reacted well to this closure, but the two’s story will probably not continue in the future. The ‘Jurassic Park’ trio won’t appear in Universal’s new addition to the ‘Jurassic World’ franchise.
There’s A New Dinosaur Flick On The Horizon
New actors are in talks to lead ‘Jurassic World 4’ after Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard’s exit. Scarlett Johansson is one of the names rumored to join the main cast.
The new movie will reportedly come out on July 2, 2025. The studio is currently working on new animatronics, VFX, and a script by David Koepp. Gareth Edwards will direct the project.
