American actress and LGBTQ+ advocate Laverne Cox took to Instagram, and congratulated Rain Valdez for her Primetime Emmy nomination in Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series nomination. Valdez earned the nomination with her role in the web series, ‘Razor Tongue’ that she created.
The ‘Orange Is the New Black’ actress released a photo of Valdez and wrote the followings along with it:
“I am so deeply moved by so many of the #Emmy nominations of my colleagues today. But I am especially moved by my friend @rainvaldez’s nomination.”
As might be remembered, Cox was the first openly transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in any acting category until Rain Valdez’s nomination.
“Until today I was the only openly trans person nominated for a Primetime Acting Emmy. I am no longer the only one. Rain changed that today with her nomination and I couldn’t be happier.”
Cox, working as an advocate for the transgender community, added:
“Monumental moments for our community and in some ways also baby steps. We must celebrate our wins, our movements forward when we make them. Shout out to all my black siblings nominated today as well. Amazing! ❤❤❤✊✊🤞🤞🙏🙏”
In return, Rain Valdez left the following comment:
“You paved the way for all of us. You made this possible for me and I’m eternally grateful. Thanks for this beautiful sentiment, Laverne! And congrats to your nomination as well! 💖👏🏽🏆”
