The first woman to receive the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing wrote the following message as a caption:
“So, I’m 3 years sober today. From the moment I began this trip I was focused on 3 years, as if it were this magic train that would somehow have carried me far enough from the me I was when I was using- a bad me, a sad me, a just plain not good enough me.”
Then Dunham clarified the photos by saying that the first one was captured on April 10, and the second one on before rehab. She continued:
“I do look like I’m trying pretty hard with that forced lil smile- trying at something like joy. But guess what? We’re worth it even when we are too tired to try, or when we are one day or one hour away from our messiest. We are worth it even when we’re right in the middle of it all.”
Then the TV – movie star encouraged her fans and followers to ask for help in case they are “caught in a cycle of pain and shame around addiction.” Stating that they are far from alone, Dunham added that there are many many recovering addicts are ready to help them through this journey. She concluded her words with these inspiring words:
“Thank you for the love you’ve shown me in the last 3 years as I’ve crawled further away from the center of the storm- but in the process, I’ve realized it’s continually storming (that’s alright) and the sun is shining too. It always was.”
Following the post, Dunham’s industry friends took to the comments section and left the following comments:
“Congratulations on 3 years that’s absolutely incredible,” wrote Juliette Lewis.
“I am there with you. In my own way. It’s worth it. It’s still not perfect. That is for moments. But much better to be here than not. So happy you are here. Sober. Love. Thank you” added, Selma Blair.
