Liam Hemsworth is set to take over as Geralt of Rivia in ‘The Witcher’ when the show returns for its fourth season on Netflix.
Hemsworth is replacing Henry Cavill, who played the character for the first three seasons. In a recent interview on Live with Kelly & Mark, the actor shared something interesting. “I hadn’t seen the TV show. And I hadn’t read the books. But I played the video game like ten years ago or something,” he admitted. “And it’s still to this day one of the best video games of all time. And Netflix came to me almost two years ago now and said that they wanted me to just step in and take over.”
Hemsworth decided to watch the show and read the books to get a better understanding of the character when Netflix approached him. He’s been filming for the last nine months and spending time in Wales for the shoot. “I was really excited by taking on that character because I was a fan of the video game,” Hemsworth explains. “But I said, you know, let me watch the TV show and have a look at the books and really get stuck into it.”
Hemsworth will be joined by returning cast members like Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri), and Joey Batey (Jaskier) in In season 4. New cast members such as Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy, Laurence Fishburne, and Danny Woodburn will also join them. The upcoming season will follow Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri as they try to survive while being separated from each other on a war-torn continent filled with demons.
There is no official premiere date yet, but season 4 of ‘The Witcher’ is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2025. Netflix confirmed that the fifth season will be the last.
