Live-Action Tomb Raider Series By Phoebe Waller-Bridge Land Amazon After Fallout’s Success

Amazon is starting a multi-platform ‘Tomb Raider’ universe that will spread through games, shows, and films.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge will collaborate with Amazon to write a new TV adaptation of the ‘Tomb Raider’ games. Head of the studio, Jen Salke, revealed the news during the company’s Upfront event in New York.

Waller-Bridge shared about the project:

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

No cast has been announced yet, but the ‘Flea’ star is reportedly working with Amazon’s former Head of Comedy Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt for the show. She will also serve as an executive producer alongside Jenny Robbins, Dmitri M. Johnson, and Michael Scheel.

Video Game Adaptations’ Rising Success On Amazon

The news followed ‘Fallout’s success on Prime Video. The studio renewed the video game adaptation for a second season a week after its premiere in April.

An official announcement about the renewal teased:

“Wouldn’t want to keep you on the edge of your seat, now, would we? See you back in the Wasteland for Season 2.”

The show became a number one hit on the streaming platform in its first week and received praise for sticking to the original. It scored 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy celebrated their success by writing:

“Praise be to our insanely brilliant showrunners, Geneva [Robertson-Dworet] and Graham [Wagner], to our kick-ass cast, to Todd [Howard] and James [Altman] and all the legends at Bethesda, and to Jen [Salke], Vernon [Sanders] and the amazing team at Amazon for their incredible support of this show. We can’t wait to blow up the world all over again.”

Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet created the Amazon series. Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, and Aaron Moten led the cast.
