Lucy Liu Will Never Say No To ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ But Still Has Concerns About Movie’s Future

Liu could return as Alex Munday.

Lucy Liu is open to returning for ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ but she’s worried about the future of the movie.

“I don’t hear much of anything until it actually happens,” the actress told Entertainment Tonight when asked if she knew anything about a potential reboot.

Liu added, “I’m never going to say no to that. But I would be surprised to hear anything that gets done or undone. You just never know until it happens.”

The 2000 movie, directed by McG, starred Liu alongside Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. In 2025, the film will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The film was based on the 1976 TV show created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts, which starred Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett.

Liu also appeared in the 2003 sequel, ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.’ The actress also spoke with Variety earlier this year about whether she thinks ‘Charlie’s Angels’ might return with a third movie.

She explained, “I honestly don’t know how that’s going to be feasible. There have been so many iterations, even after the fact … In some ways, it’s such a strange thing to think about it. Times have changed so much since then.”

“At that time, when we were doing publicity, they had never before had three women on a magazine cover,” Lucy continued. “They didn’t even know how to do it. It was such a strange thing for women to collaborate and be seen as colleagues and friends.”

The actress also shared, “It was such a big moment in time, and now it’s shifted. Even when I was doing ‘Ally McBeal,’ there had never been a lead woman in that way. There was Mary Tyler Moore and things like that, but the focus has changed.”

“I’m not in charge of that, but I always enjoy the time that I have and then I move on. I never really dwell on anything like that. But I really would be shocked if that happened,” she noted.

In 2019, Elizabeth Banks directed a new ‘Charlie’s Angels’ film, starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska.
