It’s not confirmed if she’s in talks, but ‘Madame Web’ star Sydney Sweeney is reportedly being considered by Paramount and director Edgar Wright for the female lead in ‘The Running Man.’
Glen Powell will play Ben Richards in Paramount and Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Running Man.’ According to insider Daniel Richtman, Sweeney is being considered for a role in ‘The Running Man.’
She previously starred with Powell in the romantic comedy ‘Anyone But You.’ She might play Amelia Williams, Ben’s hostage from the book. Sweeney is quickly becoming a top young actor in Hollywood with different roles. She will also star in Wright’s upcoming sci-fi movie, ‘Barbarella.’
Sydney And Glen Want To Work Together Again
Sweeney and Powell have talked about working together again. At the ‘Madame Web’ premiere, Sweeney mentioned they were discussing another project. Powell also said they were searching for their next film and that working with Sweeney is enjoyable and easy. Powell stated:
“Please send us all the scripts you got. You know we’re here for it. It’s been really wonderful to read a lot. Sydney reads everything, by the way, and in record time. She’s the fastest reader I think I’ve ever met. It takes me a little longer, but we’re reading everything and just trying to see what makes sense, what we can turn into something that audiences are going to respond to.”
Sydney played Julia Cornwall/Spider-Woman in Sony’s ‘Madame Web’ but probably won’t return after the movie’s box office results. She is rumored to play a different character in the MCU.
Wright was announced as director in 2021. Updates were rare until Powell was announced as the star at CinemaCon in April. The sci-fi novel by Stephen King, written under the name Richard Bachman in 1982, was made into a movie in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger. This new version won’t be a remake and will follow the original story more closely.
King’s book is a dystopian thriller set in the US in 2025. The economy is in trouble, and violence is at its peak. To save his family, Ben Richards joins a dangerous game show called The Running Man. Contestants can go anywhere in the world but are chased by trained killers.
