On April 19, the former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of George Floyd‘s murder and he was charged with “two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter in Floyd’s death,” according to the news obtained by NBC.
After the jury revealed their decision, a great number of celebs flooded their official social media accounts to say that “justice has been served.” The ‘Never Have I Ever‘ actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was not one of these celebs.
On the day which the news spread, the 19-year-old TV star took to her verified Instagram account, released a photo of George Floyd’s little daughter in which she is seen holding the photo of her late father, and claimed that it is not justice to find the murderer guilty. Underneath the photo, Ramakrishnan wrote:
“Let’s remember that justice and accountability are not the same things. A murderer was charged with murder as he should be. Justice is seeing George Floyd still alive today with his family. Justice is seeing all victims and survivors of police brutality with their families. Today was not reform.”
The actor also stated that the fundamental system of the United States which killed Floyd and the other people of color has not changed. Stating that a real reform what the country needs, Ramakrishnan continued:
“Fellow non-black folks, we must keep feeling uncomfortable and having conversations because it took 330 days to achieve this verdict for one man with evidence that many of us saw with our own eyes. So yeah, this is far from over.”
She concluded her words by sending love to the family of George Floyd.
