Last taken on the role in 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ Margot Robbie may come back to the DCEU as Harley Quinn. James Gunn recently commented on this possibility while answering fan questions on Threads.
Robbie previously implied quitting the part, saying she saw Quinn as a character to be passed over to other actresses. Referring to that, the co-CEO of DC wrote:
“I haven’t talked to Margot about Harley for a long time. But I’d love to work with her again as Harley or as someone else. There are no plans at this time for anyone else to play Harley (I mean, other than in Todd’s [Phillips] movie or the animated show/s.)”
Robbie’s Ready To Leave The Character Behind
Lady Gaga will be the one playing the comic book character in Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ set for release in October 2024. Based on this, while talking about the future of Harley Quinn in a chat with Variety, Robbie shared:
“I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. That was always the dream for her.”
Then, she added:
“Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”
The DCEU Will Return With A New Chapter
While the future of Harley Quinn in the DC is not confirmed, the cinematic universe is getting ready to launch a new phase with various films and TV shows.
Some of the upcoming projects will include a Batman and Robin story in ‘The Brave And The Bold,’ a ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow’ film, a Superman reboot called ‘Superman: Legacy,’ and many shows like ‘Peacemaker.’
